Naples: See the ruins of Pompeii
Rome is not the only place showcasing the remains of the Roman Empire. Visit Pompeii and be flattered and aggrieved at the same time. In AD 79, the volcano at Mount Vesuvius erased the city of Pompeii from the face of earth, burying it under a thick cover of volcanic ash.
