Once again, Universal Studios has given me some wonderful memories to cherish. Having been to both in California and Florida, I didn’t think that the one in Singapore was up to the repute. As turned out, it was an ultimate trip to Sentosa.
Even if you didn’t go to Imbiah lookout or a beach party, Universal Studios makes up for all that. Throughout the trip, I had the most fun in Universal Studios. When you are here, you will be so engrossed in the sheer entertainment that you will forget about everything. I spent two days in Universal Studios and yet couldn’t have enough of it.

To reach here, you can take the North-East line or Circle line to HarbourFront station. Reach VivoCity from Exit E and board Sentosa Express on level 3 and deboard it at Waterfront station. From here, walk straight up to Chili’s Restaurant and take a right. You will see the giant Universal Studios globe. And here’s a quick guide to what you should expect from this magical place.
Lost World
This zone is what the real adrenaline-pumping holidays are made of. Whether or not you are a fan of Jurassic Park movies, the kind of adventure they offer here is rare to find. Dinosaurs (of course, artificial ones) lurk behind the trees in this tropical land and you will definitely be stupefied at the mere sight of them. The fun activities that await you here are rock climbing and exploring the fossils, flying over the jungle to get a bird’s eye view, having fun as you get soaked in the WaterWorld and river rafting amidst the jungle full of dinosaurs. I wish I were a child as they get to fly their own Pteranodon here.
Far Far Away
An ugly ogre, a beautiful princess and a talking donkey… you guessed it right. Universal Studios tells the fairy tale of the land of Far Far Away. As you explore the zone, you will see the obvious castle and the glitzy Romeo Drive. However, most people miss out on Shrek’s swamp, tucked away in the middle of the jungle. Catch the Donkey Live show, sing along with this magical creature and make it a point to go for the Shrek 4D Adventure. As Shrek and Fiona go for adventures, you will not only see and hear but also feel the action right from your seat.
Hollywood
This is your ticket to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. As I stepped onto the Hollywood Boulevard, I was so amazed because it looked exactly like the one in California. Stroll across the Walk of Fame and check out the magnificent architecture there. And if you have also been to Hollywood, you will spend most of your time here comparing the two. Well, don’t try too hard to find the similarities or differences. Instead, go for a spectacular firework show at night and be awed by the sparkling fireworks across the sky accompanied by a great musical score.
Ancient Egypt
It’s like you are travelling back in time. The area is replete with pyramids, stone pillars and statues, pharaoh’s tombs and lots more. The Revenge of the Mummy ride is absolutely thrilling and not recommended for the faint hearted. This roller coaster runs in total darkness and as light flashes, you can see warrior mummies and beetles. Another great attraction here is Treasure Hunters, especially for adventure seekers. You get to drive a jeep across an Egyptian excavation site to find the treasure. Don’t forget to purchase souvenirs like the replicas of historical artifacts and fossils and indulge in Middle Eastern specialties at Oasis Spice Cafe (highly recommended).
Sci-Fi City
This impressive zone invites you to get a glimpse into the future. Go for Transformers the Ride and become a part of the Autobots team to fight against the evil. It’s a cool place to hang out with autobots and other aliens. You are sure to dig all the places in this city of the future. However, ensure that you visit the Stardots and relish the taste of molecular ice cream. Galactica PX and Transformers Super Vault are two stores from where you can buy your Transformers and Battlestar Galactica collectibles.
New York
A smaller replica of New York, this themed zone is great, however, cannot capture the spirit of the city that never sleeps. But again, that would be unfair to compare the two. If you want to get a gist of New York in Asia, this is your best bet. The skyline is impressive and classic landmarks are all there for people to simply admire as they walk past them. KT’s Bar is a great hangout and if you have kids, do take them to Breakfast with Elmo and Friends for Little Kids, Big Kids, and Kids at Heart. And if you have kids, what are you doing in New York? Better take them to Madagascar.
Madagascar
It’s a dense tropical jungle full of ample attractions. Your children will enjoy this place so much. First of all, it’s based on the famous Madagascar movies and secondly, they will get to meet the characters. Take them for Crate Adventure ride and carousel ride. And treat your taste buds with Japanese delights like Vegetarian Tempura and Yakitori at Gloria’s Snack Shack.
